Since 2022, François Leite’s studio has been developing an architectural production with an environmental dimension, in which attention to constructive detail reveals the synergies that exist between context, materiality and know-how. An HMONP architect and graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles, he studied at the Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Urbanismo in Buenos Aires before working for several years with Devillers & associés and LAQ. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, he manages urban projects at the crossroads of housing, the city and sustainability issues, developing experience in managing complex projects.
The studio imagines living places and objects to create unique atmospheres, in which materiality expresses itself with radicality. Combining art and architecture, François Leite’s current multidisciplinary practice explores the different forms and scales of architecture.
The François Leite Architecture studio looks at architecture through the prism of its sustainability, questioning the use of materials for their intrinsic qualities – insulating, structural, breathable – and their modularity. The projects draw their inspiration from a geographical and heritage context, reconciling local vernacular aspirations with contemporary, bioclimatic architectural design. Passive ventilation systems, natural lighting, water management and attention to plant life are at the heart of his design approach. In addition to an environmental approach, the proximity of the building to living organisms creates a special relationship between inside and outside: it provides cooling by maintaining a microclimate both inside and outside. The use of noble materials imposes an apparent « raw » treatment that
enriches the spaces with their unique plastic qualities. Exposed to the natural variations of the elements, the materials are chosen for their ability to develop a patina and ‘imbibe’ – metaphorically as much as physically – a built and living context.
